Sep 14 - Media Help Please!

Since when is murdering a child legal in the state of Michigan?

When I stop and think, this is the most bizzar situation that anyone can be put in. I am having to spend hours each day to keep a baby that is fighting for her life alive.

Isn't that the hospitals job?

We need media exposure at this point!
Our legal team has contacted the hospital and its been cleared to talk with the media.

What is happening is that every hospital that we are contacting is being scared off because of the Pediatric Ethics Committee meeting finding:

ETHICS COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION
Since physicians have determined that the patients condition is terminal and incurable, further medical interventions other than comfort measures are futile and transfer to another facility does not serve the best interest of this child. Furthermore, since continued medical interventions offer no reasonable medical benefit to the patient and such interventions serve only to postpone the moment of death, the treatment team is under no moral obligation to continue life-sustaining treatment. The parent's right to seek a second opinion has been met. Since it has been determined that no additional interventions can be offered to this child, there is no benefit in transferring her to another facility.

No it has not been met! We can't get an unbiased assessment of our child because of the committee meeting!

When she had her surgery on 9/3/06 the doctors said she would be with the lord in two days. We accepted that.

She is still here! She is still hanging on for her life.
I cannot accept the fact the hospital can not open their eyes and help a child that is still alive and fighting every day!

I wish I could tell you something that would help. I have no connections...but I do know the March of Dimes is responsible for almost all of the prematurity research being done in the country. At the very least, your local chapter of The March of Dimes could help you get publicity for your baby girl. My son was born at 25 weeks last August, and though we didn't have all the difficulties you are having, I know how you feel. Get in touch with MOD in your area. You can find your chapter going to marchofdimes.org. I hope they can help you with something....I know they were there for us. My family and I wish you the best, and I hope you get through the rest of this as painlessly as possible

    Chris & Stephanie,

I haven't kept up much but read everything after Chris' email came today. I am shocked and believe this story needs to be told.

I have forwarded Chris' email and a plea to read and help to local radio personalities Brian (Bubba) Cowen and Katie McGillis of W4 Country asking them to get involved or forward the story to one of their newspaper/tv/radio friends who can and will. I hope that this will at least get someone involved.

Our thoughts and prayers to all of you and Emmie-Rose.

Praying hard for you and Emmie- Rose (I have an Emma Rose myself)
Will spread the word on the Net and email my local papers.

Have you tried faith based hospitals? Can she make a longer trip safely?
Loma Linda in CA, Christus Santa Rosa in TX, St. Christophers in Philly?
Even CHOP in Philly might be willing.

Try this... take a look at the bottom of the page where it says log a complaint. Give them a call. It might help.

I am sooo heartbroken after reading Emmie-Rose's story...I simply can't believe that a hospital would starve a helpless infant! DISGUSTING! and I hope each and every staff memeber at U of M is ashamed of themselves!

Please contact Cindy Fiore at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. I have sent your blog address to her and asked for their help.

Also they have a Herbie Fund that brings in patients from other countries and provides medical care at no cost to you.

    Her address is cindy.fiore@sickkids.ca

Stay strong little Emmie-Rose! We are praying for you!

I have no connections but has anyone called the ACLJ? They might take the case and get an injunction against the hospital for the moment. We will be praying for this tiny life and her whole family.

I hope you don't mind but I sent the story to a children's hospital here in Indiana. It's St Vincent's Children's Hospital. Told them to take a look and see if there is ANYTHING they could do for her.
